The Prayer is a world-renowned song that was originally recorded as a duet between two music icons - Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli and Canadian singer Céline Dion. It was first introduced to the public on Celine Dion's album, These Are Special Times in 1998 and Andrea Bocelli’s album, Sogno, a year later.
The song gained substantial recognition when it was performed by Dion and Bocelli during the 41st Annual Grammy Awards. David Foster, along with Carole Bayer Sager, composed this ballad. The lyrics are unique - partly in English and partly in Italian, seamlessly uniting two languages within a single song. Tony Renis and Alberto Testa penned the Italian parts.
Musically, The Prayer is categorized as a pop-classical crossover song. This means it combines elements of classical music and modern pop, resulting in a song that appeals to a broad range of musical tastes. Despite facing criticism for being too schmaltzy, The Prayer won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song from the 1998 film Quest for Camelot. It was also nominated for both an Academy Award and a Grammy for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.
